Philosophy

Because we have great respect for the honesty, good judgment, and good will of the students who have chosen to attend this program, we expect that they will be our partners in creating an atmosphere of trust and consideration for others.  How we choose to live together, with regard to rules, is central to the Mountain School experience.  Therefore, if a student is unable to enter into the spirit of that partnership – either by failing to meet academic expectations or to abide by the school rules – he or she may be asked to leave the Mountain School.

Rules

We expect complete integrity in all matters personal and academic.  Plagiarism and cheating are serious academic breaches of this standard.

Stealing and willful destruction of the property of others undermine the trust necessary in a school and are regarded as major offenses.

Students must keep the school accurately informed of their whereabouts at all times when under the schools jurisdiction.  This is an important matter of supervision and safety.

Students must check in to their dorm at 9:30 each week night and eleven o’clock on Saturdays.

Dorm visiting is allowed until eight o’clock on weekdays and until check in on weekends.  Visitors must check in with the dorm parents before entering dorms and must keep doors open when visiting in dorm rooms.

We prohibit the use or possession of illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages by students.  We also expect incoming students to stop smoking or using nicotine in any form before they arrive.  If a student is unable to quit before then, he or she must be willing to work to stop smoking while here.
