Thank you for your interest in applying to the Mountain School. Each February, we accept applications from high school sophomores who wish to join us for one semester of their junior year. We also consider a few applications from juniors who apply for their senior fall. (Note: the application deadline for Fall '19 and Spring '20 was February 15, 2019. At this time, we are no longer accepting applications, but if you’re interested in studying away this spring, we encourage you to check out other semester programs that may still have spots available for the spring semester.)
To apply for Fall '20 and/or Spring '21, please take the following steps:
1. Complete the online application. There is no application fee. We use a service called Ravenna to host our entire application process. To access the application, click here. You’ll create an account on Ravenna (choose the button on the left for “Create an account”). Once you’ve created that account, you’ll be directed to our application through the link above. Applications are due Monday, February 17, 2020 (by 11:59pm EST) at the latest.
2. Request two recommendations from academic teachers (teachers who have had you in class for at least one semester). We suggest asking your teachers in person first, and then send them the information they need to complete the recommendation, which can be accessed through your Ravenna account. You will use the same login and password that you use for your application. Further instructions are available on the portal once you log in. Remind teachers to submit the form by February 17th, 2020 as well.
3. Submit an official academic transcript showing 9th and 10th grades (or all grades up to the current semester if the student is a junior applying for their senior fall). Send a request to your school counselor, advisor, dean or registrar through your through your Ravenna account as well by February 17th.
*A note on Ravenna:
Ravenna has great customer service. If you have technical difficulties with the online application, you can reach out to them directly. You’ll see a “Get Help” section on the left-hand side of your screen, and through that you can “submit a request” (top right of the next screen). They usually respond within 24 hours. You can also feel free to email or call us with questions as well.
After the February 17th deadline, we will confirm that we received all your materials within a week. If we haven't received something (if we're missing a teacher recommendation, for example) we will email you to let you know. The next time you hear from us will be when we send decisions mid to late March. We will ask for enrollment agreements back by April 17th, 2020. If we need to go to the wait list to fill any remaining spots, we'll do so after April 17th.
Visits to the Mountain School are possible but should be arranged in advance. We welcome visitors in the fall semester, and also welcome accepted students to visit in the spring after decisions have been mailed. Note that we do not interview prospective students as part of the application process. If you'd like to visit, please email us.
We are need blind in our admissions process, which means we don't look at whether or not you need financial aid when you apply to the Mountain School. Financial aid applications are processed separately. Information and application can be found here.
